The River Bulls - Champion Underdogs of the Indigenous Rugby League Carnival!
The Mackay Indigenous Rugby League Carnival held in 2019 was the first time that The River Bulls competed - a newly established rugby team honouring a local family’s message to prevent suicide and increase awareness around mental health. Increasingly, these challenges are effecting us as a community. So, when we discovered The River Bulls Rugby League team and what they were about, we jumped at the chance to support them.
Teams from throughout Queensland compete in this annual three day event held in Mackay - supported by local businesses, community members and spectators, tireless volunteers, and the families, friends, and fans of all of the players. Throughout the fiercely competitive carnival, our River Bulls put in an amazing effort to take the Premiership in 2019 and we couldn’t have been more proud. The enthusiasm and passion behind this team showed on and off the field, as the team and their families campaigned and supported other local businesses and individual family stories, as well as spreading their own message of hope.
“The community support we received from businesses like AJP was overwhelming! Being a first time team in a carnival as big as the Mackay Indigenous Rugby League Carnival, we were coming in as the underdogs. The sponsorship received meant that our footy kits were standout and the quality of care we were able to give to our team was only made possible by the generosity of our local businesses. Taking home the premiership our first year was made possible by this support.”
- Tania Townes-Tass (THE RIVER BULLS)
Once the covid-19 restrictions ease around the country we hope to continue to support events and causes such as this - truly effecting the lives of us all and helping to open community conversation around mental health and suicide prevention.
Good luck to the River Bulls and their future campaigns, AJP Industrial Supplies has been so proud to sponsor the team in their first time competing (and then winning) this fantastic event!
